The three Egmonds — Egmond aan Zee, Egmond aan den Hoef, and Egmond-Binnen — are located close together and are surrounded by dunes, polders, and the beach. JCJ van Speijk Lighthouse — Egmond aan Zee

Proud and stately it stands high on the dune: the white one JCJ van Speijk Lighthouse. Since 1834, it has been the landmark of Egmond aan Zee and the most photographed structure in the village. In July and August, you can climb the lighthouse on Sundays (11:00 AM - 1:00 PM) and on Friday evenings (7:00 PM - 9:00 PM). At the top, a magnificent panorama awaits over the North Sea, the dunes, and the village. The structure was once chosen as a national monument in memory of Lieutenant Commander Jan van Speijk.

Castle Quarter & House Egmont — Egmond aan den Hoef

In the heart of Egmond aan den Hoef you will find the Castle Quarter: a historic area with no fewer than six national monuments. Here once stood 'the largest and most beautiful castle in Holland', the ancestral castle of the Lords of Egmont, which was destroyed in 1573 during the Eighty Years' War. The foundations of the castle, the Castle Chapel from 1431, and the Castle Park can still be visited. Begin your visit at the visitor center. Egmont House at Slotweg 46-48, where exhibitions and stories take you to medieval Holland.

St. Adelbert Abbey — Egmond-Binnen

A special place to stop on your bike ride: the Saint Adelbert Abbey at Abdijlaan 26 in Egmond-Binnen. In this centuries-old monastic complex, Benedictine monks still live according to the Rule of Benedict. Visit the abbey shop with artisanal candles and books, enjoy coffee and tea in the Benedictushof, or join the walk-in tour on Saturdays (2:00 PM). The abbey is an oasis of tranquility amidst the dunes and polders.

Egmond Brewery — Egmond aan den Hoef

A beer lover? Then a visit to Egmond Brewery The place at Weg over de Bisschop 1b in Egmond aan den Hoef is highly recommended. This is where the Sancti Adalberti abbey beers are brewed — the only organic Benedictine abbey beer in the Netherlands, under license from the Saint Adalbert Abbey. Every Saturday at 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM, you can take a guided tour, followed by a beer tasting at Proeverij Egmont, within walking distance. A great combination: drive on to the abbey to discover the spiritual origins of the beers.

Museum of Egmond — Egmond aan Zee

Do you want to know more about the rich past of the fishing village? The Museum of Egmond In the heart of Egmond aan Zee, the thousand-year history of the village is told, from old fishing traditions to the origins of the seaside resort. An atmospheric museum, housed in a historic building, that makes an excellent addition to your cycling day along the beach and dunes.

Castle park and monk's path — Egmond aan den Hoef and Egmond-Binnen

In addition to the sights themselves, the landscape is an attraction in its own right. Stop along the way in the Castle Park surrounding the castle foundations, or cycle the Monks' Path that starts at the Saint Adelbert Abbey and takes you through farmlands and dunes past the Three Egmonds. This is a particularly beautiful cycling route in the spring, when the bulb fields a little further away are in bloom.
